his commentary, a work in progress
by Samuel Fosu-Mensah, examines the Quran
verse by verse and contrasts it with the Bible. The author is a Christian missionary to
Muslims in India and the East. It is the intent of the author to demonstrate
to the Muslim the problems inherent in the text of the Quran
and in the traditional interpretations of the text.
We have published Fosu-Mensahs
commentary here with more than a little bit of reluctance. First, we don't need any more death
threats the 14,000+ that were
received a while back after my brother began publishing his
Islam Commentaries
will suffice, thank you. And
second, as a thorough knowledge of English
grammar is not one of Fosu-Mensahs
strong points, at times the language of the commentaries seems a bit awkward.
And third, we do not
agree with many of his interpretations of Christian doctrine, as we come from
a Reformed tradition. However, over all, Fosu-Mensahs
work is commendable, as there is a dearth of popular works available on the
Internet that examines the Quran
critically.
The English text of Fosu-Mensahs
commentary utilizes Yusuf Alis
translation of the Quran, one of the most
popular English translations available. There are two other popular
English language translations available as well: one translation is by
Marmaduke Mohammad Pickthall, and another by M. H. Shakir, as
published by Tahrike Tarsile Quran of
Elmhurst, New York. All
three English translations of the Quran
can be reviewed on line at
