In the name of Allah, Gracious, Merciful.
1Those who reject truth among the people of the book and among
the polytheists were not going to depart until there should come to them
2An apostle from Allah rehearsing scriptures kept pure and holy:
3Wherein are laws right and straight.
4Nor did the people of the book make schisms until after there
came to them clear evidence.2
5And they have been commanded no more than this: to worship Allah
offering Him sincere devotion being true; to establish regular prayer; and
to practice regular charity; and that is the religion right and straight.

1. “The People of the Book” is a term used to
describe the Jews and the Christians.
2. This verse asserts that the People of the
Book were together until Islam was revealed and then division came among
them. Well in the first place, there was division between the Jews and the
Christians long before Islam was born. In fact there were divisions within
Jewry and Christianity long before Islam was revealed, therefore the claim
by Allah is false.
6Those who reject truth among the people of the book and among
the polytheists will be in hell fire to dwell therein. They are the worst of
7Those who have faith and do righteous deeds, they are the best
8Their reward is with Allah: Gardens of eternity beneath which
rivers flow; They will dwell therein forever; Allah is well pleased with
them and they with Him: all this for such as fear their Lord.
