The Daybreak (Al-Falaq)

In the name of Allah, Gracious, Merciful.

1Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the dawn1

2From the mischief of created things;

3And from the mischief of darkness as it overspreads;

4And from the mischief of those who practice secret arts;

5And from the mischief of the envious one as he practices envy.2

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

1Qul auzu birabil falaq

2Min syarn ma halaq

3Wa min syari gasiqin iza waqab

4Wa min syarin naffasati fil uqad

5Wa min syari hasidin iza hasad

1. Why would Allah tell Muhammad to say that he seeks refuge from the Lord of the Dawn? Who is the Lord of the Dawn? Was not Allah enough as a Protector for Muhammad. I do not recall one Prophet of God Almighty who was taught to pray similarly. They knew God Almighty and had a relationship with Him therefore they never at loss for words in submitting their supplications to Him. On the other hand, Muhammad was told to say, to whom, is not so sure. Could it be that he was confronted with a power beyond the one protecting him and was told this as a way to withstand the enemies of Allah?

For the Christian, the Bible says in Ephesians 6:11 to “Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the devils strategies.” That is we fight opposing spirits as Christians.

2. Please refer to verse 5. Jesus sent the disciples out into the world and gave them power over the powers of Satan because Jesus saw Satan cast down powerless before the servants of God Almighty (Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 10:18). When one is poisoned it will not affect him (Mark 16:17-20) reads:

“These are the signs that will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands; even if they drink any deadly poison it will not hurt them; and they will place their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So the Lord Jesus, after talking with them, was taken up to heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. The disciples went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord kept working with them and confirming the message by the signs that accompanied it.

This is true even today, the power of God Almighty has not diminished. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
